Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS Now Available for Networked Applications Built Using the Freescale Semiconductor MCF5282
MOBILE, Ala.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Nov. 9, 2004—
Accelerated Technology(R), a Mentor Graphics division
(Nasdaq:MENT), today announced the Nucleus(R) Real-Time Operating
System (RTOS) for developers using the Freescale Semiconductor
ColdFire MCF5282 microcontroller. Embedded developers now have a
comprehensive software solution available from one vendor in which to
build networked microcontroller applications.
The MCF5282 is the first microcontroller based on Freescale's
32-bit ColdFire core integrated with Ethernet, Flash and controller
area network (CAN). With its integrated 10/100 Mbps Ethernet mandatory
access control (MAC), the MCF5282 can bring standards-based networking
to a variety of traditional microcontroller unit (MCU) applications.
"Our customers can now utilize the Nucleus RTOS-based
comprehensive software solution to fully leverage the capabilities of
the MCF5282," said Bill Krakar, tools program manager, Freescale
Semiconductor. "Freescale has a significant number of customers who
have successfully developed numerous applications using the Nucleus
RTOS who can now continue that success with the MCF5282."
The Nucleus RTOS, closely integrated with the MCF5282 MCU,
provides a customized and solid foundation from which ColdFire core
developers can build applications such as food service equipment,
security systems, vending machines, exercise equipment and industrial
controllers. Applications in all of these areas will benefit from the
networking functions provided by the integration of Nucleus RTOS with
the MCF5282 MCU such as Web-based user interfaces, network time
synchronization and router/gateway functionality for legacy serial
protocols.
By implementing the robust and scalable Nucleus RTOS, developers
can take advantage of other Nucleus add-on products supporting the
MCF5282 processor including the Nucleus NET TCP/IP networking protocol
stack, the Nucleus FILE file management software, the Nucleus WebServ
embedded Web server software and a CAN driver.
"The addition of networking and flash features to Freescale's
ColdFire processor is very exciting because it offers a truly complete
and integrated hardware and software solution for today's embedded
developers," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics
Embedded Systems Division.
Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without
royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495 U.S.
